Featured Presentation

Jeopardy: SQL Server Design, Development and Administration

Speaker: Chad Crawford, Distinguished Database Engineer Henry Schein One

Summary: Presentation by Chad Crawford - Jeopardy: SQL Server Design, Development and Administration Abstract: In this session we will review some of the basic principles and tools used in database design, query writing, and server care. The presentation medium will be a quiz-show style format ("What is the word that starts a CTE?"), leading into a discussion when we hit a topic that has greater interest (So what exactly is a CTE, when would you use it, and how does it impact performance?). The topics cover enough variety to ensure everyone will see something they know well, and something they wish they knew better. Because we are simulating a game show, there will be swag for the team that participates the best. Bio:Chad has been working with database engines for 17 years, the last 15 focused specifically on SQL Server. He has filled a variety of roles spanning architecture, development and administration. Chad is currently the Database Architect at Henry Schein Practice Solutions in American Fork and is a Microsoft Certified Master. When he isn’t optimizing a query, you will find him running, dreaming about airplanes, or looking for a new strategy board game.

About Chad: Chad Crawford is an MCM and Principal Database Engineer with 19 years' experience in database architecture, development, and administration. He has worked in the manufacturing, health care, and consulting industries, primarily focusing on design, performance, and high-availability of customer facing SAAS systems. He loves teaching and sharing new ideas, and created a custom training course that helped dozens of coworkers prepare for certification exams. He speaks regularly for users groups and SQLSaturday, and leads the Utah County SQL Users Group. When he isn’t optimizing a query or analyzing performance tests, you will find him running, tweaking a ham radio, or looking for a new strategy board game.
