Webinar ID: 575-262-211

Abstract:
JSON is widely used by applications now instead of XML. Is that good or bad? What are the benefits and what are the uses of it in SQL Server? Is SQL Server really the place to generate or query my JSON? This session will give an overview of JSON, its pros and cons and resources available to you to be able to learn about JSON. The presentation will present the various functions SQL Server has available for generating, parsing, modifying and presenting data from JSON structures. Included in that discussion will be appropriate techniques for storing JSON your application receives. Finally, it will discuss ways to index a JSON structure as well as potential pitfalls with indexing the structure.

Bio:
Data Architect - Dentrix Ascend, Henry Schein Practice Solutions
Bachelors of Science in Computer Science: Utah Valley University
Joshua has worked with databases since 1999 and with SQL Server since October 2003.
Joshua has worked as a software or QA engineer since 1999 working with Java, PHP, C#, Groovy, etc. He currently works at Henry Schein Practice Solutions (now Henry Schein One). He has been there for the past 14 years where he has been a QA engineer, software engineer and is currently the data architect for a cloud-based dental practice management software (Dentrix Ascend) – where he works under a Microsoft Certified Master in SQL Server. HappyFebruary! We have a website again! You can now find us at www.slcsql.com. Also, if your company is hiring, let us know and we will put it on our website! We are super excited to hear from Chad Crawford this month and he has a little brain teaser to get your minds going for Monday:"This isolation level does not honor exclusive locks" .Next month we will be hearing from Brandon Preece as he explains Clean Databases that would make your Mom Proud. If you haven't been to a user group in a while, now is a great time to join us again!

This months presentation:

Chad Crawford -Jeopardy:SQL Server Design, Development and Administration

Abstract: In this session we will review some of the basic principles and tools used in database design, query writing, and server care. The presentation medium will be a quiz-show style format ("What is the word that starts a CTE?"), leading into a discussion when we hit a topic that has greater interest (So what exactly is a CTE, when would you use it, and how does it impact performance?). The topics cover enough variety to ensure everyone will see something they know well, and something they wish they knew better. Because we are simulating a game show, there will be swag for the team that participates the best.

Bio:Chad has been working with database engines for 17 years, the last 15 focused specifically on SQL Server. He has filled a variety of roles spanning architecture, development and administration. Chad is currently the Database Architect at Henry Schein Practice Solutions in American Fork and is a Microsoft Certified Master. When he isn’t optimizing a query, you will find him running, dreaming about airplanes, or looking for a new strategy board game.
